Several users have complained about the software bugs

Motorola announced the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus earlier this year, as mid-rangers with powerful specs and appealing camera capacities. However, some users have stated that they’re facing some rather annoying issues.

Moto G5 Plus owners who bought their devices from Verizon have noticed an issue with their smartphones, namely the fact that their devices are unable to dial 911 because of a software bug. The Moto G5 Plus simply cancels calls to emergency number 911, even though some disabled Bluetooth and restarted the phone.

Users contacted Verizon and were informed that the issue was caused by a software bug, which will most likely be fixed with an update. Verizon didn’t provide a timeline for the update, but it should arrive as soon as a solution to the issue is found. Needless to say, this is a critical bug that can aggravate a situation in which people would need to request emergency assistance.

Motorola reportedly acknowledged the issue

Motorola was informed about the issue and its solution was for the users to perform a factory reset of the smartphone and see if it fixes the issue. Sadly, this didn’t fix the problem and the only solution for Verizon Moto G5 Plus owners is to wait for an update to fix the software bug.

Fortunately, the problem seems to be limited to Moto G5 Plus units bought from Verizon, as unlocked units or those from other carriers don’t seem to have the same issue. However, it is somewhat difficult to check, since it implies calling 911 just to see if the service can be reached.

It’s not uncommon for smartphones to encounter several problems, caused by a recent update or a software bug. Pixel and Pixel XL owners have recently complained that following an update to Android 7.1.2 Nougat, the fingerprint scanner no longer worked properly.

Google pledged to roll out a fix via an update and solve the problem with the scanner. Pixel smartphones have also encountered issues with Bluetooth connectivity and problems related to audio distortion or double-tap to wake feature.

Update: Motorola has released a fix for the issue on Friday, April 21 and is encouraging affected users to install it right away. Users can trigger the update by accessing the Settings menu, About phone and System updates section.
