Microsoft has recently announced it will bring group video calling to Skype for Windows 10 Mobile, Android, and iOS. Today, the Skype Team confirmed a new update is now available for download on Android platform.

Although the group video calling feature will be rolled out over the coming weeks, the new features included in the latest update are available right away.

The first new feature included in this update is the ability to schedule calls with friends and family, in addition to the already available option to schedule Skype calls using Outlook.

According to Skype, you can now tap on the person you want to plan a call with, then tap the menu on the upper right to select “Schedule a call.”

However, developers also mention that you can use another calendar app if you don't want to take advantage of Outlook for Android to schedule Skype calls. Simply create an event and send out the invite.

Make sure you have Word for Android installed on your device

Another important new feature included in the update is the ability to open Microsoft Office documents, presentations and spreadsheets directly within Skype.

So, if you receive a Word document via Skype, you ca now tap on the file to open it right up in Word for Android; no extra steps needed.

Keep in mind that if you don' have Word for Android, when you tap on the file, you will receive instructions on how to download and install the application.

These are all the new features included in the latest version of Skype, but under-the-hood improvements might have been added as well.

If you don't have the instant messenger yet, you can now download Skype for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 4.0 and up.
