14 DAY TRIAL // It's been less than a week since Skype released a new update for its mobile application and the company is back with yet another major upgrade that brings lots of new features and improvements.
The main highlight of this update is message filters, which can now be applied to videos. The new feature is now available for both Android and iOS versions of Skype.
“Some moments can’t be captured by words or pictures alone. Video messages allow you to record short clips and send them to your Skype contacts to be viewed at any time, they don’t have to be online.
“Capture and share a fleeting memory, create a heartfelt reminder, or simply tell a friend or family member ‘wish you were here,’” the Skype Team explains.
For iOS users, there are even more important features included in this update, as Skype has just announced 3D touch support on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is now available.
Peek and Pop with 3D Touch
This means that iPhone users will be able to get into their conversations much faster using 3D Touch. So, with the latest update, you will be able to Force Touch the Skype icon on the home screen for quick access to some of the most used features.
Also, once you open Skype, you can Force Touch a Recent conversation to Peek the latest instant messages of live video if you are on a call.
You can even hide and delete chats from your Recent conversations by swiping the contact or tapping Edit, then choosing if you want to delete the whole chat history or just hide it from the Recent list.
The update also adds the option to share a Skype contact by tapping the contact card icon in a conversation to open the contact list.
You can now download Skype for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
For iOS users, the app can be downloaded for free via App Store. It should run smoothly on all devices powered by iOS 7.0 or later.
