Skype has recently received a new preview build as part of the Insider program, and one of the key features is the addition of raise hand support.

The world has moved to working from home in the last six months or so, and applications like Microsoft Teams and Skype have become an essential communications tool because it allows us to stay in touch with workmates.

Needless to say, the main benefit is that we can create virtual meetings where teams can meet and discuss various topics, but the bigger the number of participants, the bigger the struggle to keep things organized.

This is why features like raise hand come in handy and starting with version 8.65.76.73, it’s also available on Skype.

“Do you want to participate more in the discussion, but you don’t want to interrupt the current speaker? Just raise your hand. Very handy for classroom meetings, but you can also use it as a simple voting mechanism,” the Skype team explains.

More improvements for all platforms

In addition, this new update also includes background blur for Android, after the feature previously went live on the desktop. With this option, users can simply blur what’s in the background during a video call.

Furthermore, Microsoft has also added smart suggestions for iOS and Meet Now support for Safari. The company explains.

“Smart suggestions for iOS. We have added direct share support to your iOS devices so you can share text, photos, videos and files with your frequent Skype contacts. Meet Now support for Safari. Join Meet Now calls via Safari on Mac. You don’t need to download the Skype app first if you want to join as a guest.”

Windows and Mac users are also getting CallTo and Tel protocols with this new update. There are obviously several fixes under the hood, so Skype overall should now run smoother on all platforms.
