We haven’t seen the last of John McClane! “A Good Day to Die Hard,” the fifth installment in the franchise, came out in 2013 and was trashed by critics, but it still delivered a good performance at the box office.

Naturally, 20th Century Fox wants more of it and is now working on a sixth installment, The Wrap confirms. Studio bosses are now in negotiations with Len Wiseman to direct. If the name rings a bell, it’s because he directed the “Underworld” films but also the 2007 “Live Free or Die Hard.”

The next “Die Hard” movie won’t be a sequel to “A Good Day to Die Hard” but a prequel of sorts to the entire franchise. In other words, it will center on the story of a young John McClane and how he came to be the badass we met in the first film. The film will be set in New York City, 1979.

Don’t worry though, Bruce Willis will still return to play the character that turned him into one of the biggest action movie stars of all time. The only thing is that his onscreen time will probably be limited.

The Wrap says that his involvement is a given, even though he doesn’t have a contract yet.

“Lorenzo di Bonaventura would produce the new ‘Die Hard’ with Wiseman because the film would rework a different project that was controlled by di Bonaventura,” the trade publication reports. “Wiseman pitched a new take incorporating the ‘Die Hard’ mythology to di Bonaventura, who has a strong relationship with his ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ star Willis.”

Is this exciting news, or should Hollywood just let this one movie franchise be already? Let me know in the comments.
