Microsoft launched the Windows Insider program back in October 2014 in order to let users test Windows 10 and provide feedback to the company and thus significantly improve the platform, and now that the operating system is finally out, more statistics on the program are available.

Basically, a total of six million users are currently testing Windows 10, according to Satya Nadella and Terry Myerson, who are in charge of Microsoft and the Windows team, respectively.

Nadella and Myerson took the Ice Bucket Challenge and then nominated the “six millions insiders” to do the same, thus revealing that the Windows Insider program is growing.

The Windows Insider program continues

Microsoft launched Windows on July 29, but even though development of the operating system was completed, the company is keen on continuing the Windows Insider program in order to develop the next updates together with feedback from users, just as it did for the core platform.

Windows 10 is expected to get the very first update in October this year, but Microsoft hasn't yet confirmed its development, as it now offers its operating system as “Windows as a Service” and wants to deliver updates and improvements at a faster pace.

What's more, the Windows Insider program has recently re-opened its doors, so new users can now register for an account and start testing pre-release software at any time.

Microsoft promised to release new builds, which will basically be the new updates for Windows 10, in the coming weeks, but for the moment, the company is focusing a little bit more on the mobile version, which is also projected to make its public debut in October.

The focus is now on mobile, but PC builds should start arriving anytime soon, so make sure you keep an eye on the news to find out when you can download new versions.
