14 DAY TRIAL // The Chromaton Chronicles is the newest DLC for Shadows: Awakening, the latest installment in the Heretic Kingdoms saga which we've already reviewed recently. If you've played and finished the game already, there's no reason why you should buy the DLC unless you want to play it once again but from another perspective.
This isn't a DLC that brings new content that you can play for hours, but a very short one (20-30 minutes), which introduces a new playable character or puppet, as they're called in Shadows: Awakening.
In order to recruit the new character, you'll have to visit the mysterious Arcanum Laboratory, a new location in the north of Thole, and complete the chain quest that will ultimately allow you to solve the final puzzle.
The Chromaton Golem is a warrior class puppet that, unlike the Iron Golem, another puppet that you can recruit in the game, uses a shield. I don't think the Chromaton Golem has a story of its own like the three heroes that you can choose from at the beginning of the game, but it's definitely an interesting choice if you like playing the warrior class.
Many of the Chromaton Golem's skills focus on lightning damage, which makes it quite effective against creatures weak at this type of damage. Also, since it has a couple skills that do AoE (area of effect) damage, it's perfect for handling groups of enemies.
Just like the other puppets, you'll be able to specialize the Chromaton Golem to deal more damage to specific types of enemies, but you can also give the puppet resistance to different types of damage or boost its stats (endurance, agility, strength).
Shadows: Awakening - The Chromaton Chronicles is available on Steam for €4.99 / $4.99, but I'd recommend waiting for a sale. The fact that you can already recruit a golem to your party and that many of the recruitable characters that you meet in the game are very interesting, doesn't help either.
