The solution is to keep the protective film on the camera

Some owners of the newly released LG V20 have taken to Reddit to report that the camera glass on the back of the phone may be fragile. Apparently, the glass is prone to breaking if the LED flash is left on for a long period of time.

Reddit user claimed that the camera glass on his phone simply broke after the LED flash was left on for a long period of time, but he didn’t actually mention for how long. Another user said that the camera glass cracked during shipping and he would receive a replacement unit from his carrier, T-Mobile.

However, he intends to return the V20 as he’s not pleased with the battery life and says the phone seems a bit too fragile overall.

The causes for the incidents haven’t been verified yet, so these claims should be taken with a grain of salt for now. The best solution to prevent the camera glass from breaking is to keep the protective film on.

The protective film or a case should keep the camera glass safe

The LG V20 has undergone the scratch, bent and burn test by JerryRigEverything, a YouTuber that conducts various tests on the latest smartphones in order to determine their durability and strength. He recommends leaving the protector film on the V20’s rear camera.

The camera lens is made of glass and doesn’t scratch easily, but it’s not made of pure sapphire. It seems that even a small abrasion can weaken the glass, and the video below shows how the glass simply breaks after the test is conducted.

A screen protector should keep the protruding camera lens on the back, safe from breaking. Any kind of case would also be very useful to make sure that the camera glass doesn’t rub up against any surface. The V20 did pass the durability test, but the biggest issue was indeed with the camera lens on the back.
