The launch trailer for the upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice shines a little bit more light on the gameplay and the direction of this new title.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is made by From Software, and that studio’s name alone should be enough to recommend the game. This is the same studio that gave us the Dark Souls Trilogy and Bloodborne, in the space of a decade.

It’s easy to see why people are looking with great interest at this game, but there is also a feeling the community that the developers might be walking away from a path that made them famous. Their latest games are known for being incredibly challenging, but  Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is trying something else, and until people get to play it, a lingering feeling will remain.

The latest trailer sets up the stage

It’s not like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was kept a secret, and a great deal is known about the game itself. It takes place in a parallel 16th-century Sengoku period, and players take on the role of a character named Sekiro.

It’s no longer an RPG experience, but more of an action adventure. It’s still tricky, but now the gameplay puts emphasis on counterattacks and finding openings in the enemy’s technique and guard to deliver a single and powerful blow.

Some stealth elements are present and make no mistake about it; it’s still a From Software game and players will get the Dark Souls feeling as well. But the world is built different and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will stand apart from everything else.

In any case, the development for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is finishing, and the company is preparing to launch by the end of the month. Interestingly enough, it’s being published by Activision this time around. It’s scheduled to be released on March 22nd, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
