The long-running Total War franchise lives on through the DLCs that developer Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA continue to put out for the latest installment in the series – Total War Warhammer II.

The game made its debut back in 2017 and is still getting DLCs that add new factions and new heroes that many players find enjoyable. The most recent one is called The Shadow & the Blade and it's now available on Steam for $9 / €9.

The new campaign pack includes new characters, units, magic lore, campaign mechanics and a lot more, SEGA claims. The new DLC will be launched on December 12 and will be playable in both the Eye of The Vortex and Mortal Empire campaigns.

The Shadow & the Blade introduces two legendary lords to the game, Malus Darkblade and Deathmaster Snikch. Each is leading its own new faction, Dark Elves and Clan Eshin, respectively. The upcoming DLC will also add 12 new units such as Highbeast Master, Bloodwrack Medusa, Master Assassins, Eshin Triads and more. Also, Lore of Stealth will be included in the new DLC, too.

Malus Darkblade will bring new mechanics to the game like Possession, Darkblade's Expedition, and Tz'arkan's Whispers. On the other hand, Deathmaster Snikch will add its own mechanics like Shadowy Dealings and Greater Clan Contracts. More details about how these mechanics work are available via the Total War forums.

Along with the DLC, developers plan to release a free content update that will add two Legendary heroes: Repanse de Lyonesse (Bretonnia) and Henri Le Massif (Bretonnia). In addition, some significant quality of life improvements has been made to enemy turn time durations. Based on these improvements, players can expect to see up to a 60% decrease in wait times between turns, although this will depend on their current game state and PC specifications.
