Secunia, a Danish company that provides software vulnerability management solutions, has been acquired by Flexera Software, a computer software company from Itasca, Illinois, USA.

Flexera, a company with over 600 employees, is famous for providing software products, amongst which InstallShield, InstallAnywhere, FlexNet Publisher and AdminStudio are the best known.

The company's claim to fame comes from its software installation and SAM (Software Asset Management) solutions, but in recent years, Flexera has been dipping its fingers in the security field as well.

With its recent acquisition of Secunia, a world leader in vulnerability detection and management, Flexera hopes to boost its security auditing assets.

By adding Secunia's vulnerability discovering features to software suites like AdminStudio, system administrators will not only be able to discover and manage software with their respective license issues but they'll also be able to perform basic security scans, and identify flaws that may impact the organization's privacy and security.

"Secunia's products deliver the Software Vulnerability Management capabilities enterprises urgently need today while complementing our existing market-leading solutions for Software License Optimization and Application Readiness," said Mark Bishof, Flexera Software's Chief Executive Officer.

He was referring to Secunia's Vulnerability Intelligence Manager and Corporate Software Inspector, two solutions which provide comprehensive vulnerability intelligence from Secunia Research, as well as multi-platform assessment of software vulnerabilities and cost-effective patch creation and deployment.

No word on the acquisition's financial details.
