Today has been a day filled with leaks and new information regarding the upcoming HTC smartphones, set to be announced during the U event on Thursday, January 12. The specs for the HTC U Ultra and U Play have leaked earlier today and it’s time for live images to surface.

The live pictures were posted by Techtastic and they do show the HTC U Ultra from all corners. The first and most surprising feature of the new HTC flagship is most certainly the secondary display. No mention of such a display was made in previous leaks, and that's why the feature is quite surprising.

The smartphone, also known as Ocean Note, certainly accommodates a secondary display well, considering that it has a 6-inch QHD screen. We must say that the secondary display does resemble the concept previously seen on the LG V20 and the V10.

Whether a secondary display is to the liking of consumers is difficult to say, but we can’t deny that it provides additional functionality. The leaked images show the secondary display providing information like the weather forecast or shortcuts to popular apps.

It also appears to provide a feature similar to Samsung’s “Always on Display,” as it shows information even when the main display on the U Ultra is off. Most certainly, the secondary display will accommodate more features than the ones we can spot in these live images.

The U Ultra appears to have a single main camera on the back

Moving on, the live images also reveal four color variants for the U Ultra, white, blue, black, and rose gold. The design appears to be very appealing, with a symmetry between the front and back panels, while the rear camera appears to have a protruding design together with its dual-LED flash.

This particular piece of information contradicts previous rumors regarding a dual-camera setup on the back. The U Ultra will be unveiled two days from now and it is believed to feature 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 4,000mAh battery.

We’re not sure about the rumored Snapdragon 835 SoC inside, since previous leaks have said that the Galaxy S8 will be the first announced smartphone to incorporate the latest Qualcomm chipset. Then again, HTC might surprise us on Thursday.
