Today, December 7, 2016, the development team behind the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux operating system have announced the release of the second preview version of the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" distribution.

Still based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" repositories, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test2 is here one and a half months after the previous development release, and ships with more recent technologies and Open Source software projects, including the latest GNOME 3.22.2 desktop environment and Linux 4.4.35 LTS kernel.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 (code name Nev) ships with stable GNOME 3.22 desktop environment and an updated kernel. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of November 27 2016. Parsix Nev ships with LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default," reads the release announcement.

Included in the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test2 release are the GNOME Shell 3.22.2 graphical user interface, Mozilla Firefox 50.0 web browser, LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite, VirtualBox 4.3.36 virtualization software, Empathy 3.12.12 instant messenger, GRUB 2 bootloader, Gparted 0.19.0 partition editor, and X.Org Server 1.16.4 display server.

Additionally, users will find the Chromium 53.0 web browser, GIMP 2.8.14 image editor, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Grisbi 1.0.1 personal financial management program, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.643, Nvidia 340.96 and ATI Catalyst 15.12 graphics drivers. Under the hood, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.15 "Nev" Test2 utilizes GNU C Library 2.19.

As usual, the included Linux kernel is injected with TuxOnIce, BFS and other extra patches, and the Live ISO image has been compressed using the latest XZ and SquashFS compression methods.
