The Marvel vs. Warner Bros. feud is picking up steam

For the obvious reasons, there is no love lost between Marvel and Warner Bros., Hollywood’s biggest rival studios. With Warners delivering the second installment in its Justice League franchise next year, which it hopes will become a rival to Marvel’s Avengers universe, no wonder the feud between the two is picking up steam.

The latest to join in is Sebastian Stan, aka Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier from “Captain America,” but he’s only doing so in response to a comment made recently by Zack Snyder, the director of “Man of Steel” and the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” films for Warners.

“Batman V. Superman” won’t be “the flavor of the month”

Some days ago, Snyder spoke to the media about the hotly anticipated “Batman V. Superman,” which will mark the first time the 2 superheroes from DC Comics appear together on the big screen.

To play up the strengths of the movie, which has received more than a fair share of criticism from fans online (for casting Ben Affleck as Batman and for being “too dark” for a superhero movie, among other things), Snyder picked on the rival Avengers franchise from Marvel.

He said that, unlike the most recent Marvel release “Ant-Man,” his “Batman” would be a serious movie, not one that had the distinct feel of a “flavor of the month” release.

This wouldn’t be the first time that he tries to talk up his own film by making comparisons with Marvel and having them come up short, but it’s the first that he gets a direct response from someone from MCU.

Sebastian Stan goes on the defensive

Sebastian Stan isn’t happy that Snyder is promoting his own movie franchise by dragging Marvel’s through the mud, as is obvious from his new interview with Collider.

Consequently, he’s not mincing any words, saying that the only “original” thing to come from Snyder in recent years was his decision to fire shots at DC and Warners.

And, because 2 can play this game, he responds in the exact same way as Snyder, defending the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” and blasting “Batman V. Superman” as nothing short of a cheap replica.

“I would say we’re still making something very original in our own way. I mean, the Russos are coming in and taking something people are used to and they’re shaping it up and changing it in a very different way. They’re not trying to mimic a better Christopher Nolan movie or something like that,” he says.

Many fans will also agree with that last part of his comment: both “Man of Steel” and “Batman V. Superman” (based on what we’ve seen from it from the trailers) have that distinct Nolan-esque feel that doesn’t quite rise to the high bar set by his “Dark Knight” franchise.
