The original iPhone is a model that made history, not necessarily because of its record sales but thanks to the concept that it has given birth to.

Everybody knows how important the iPhone is today for the mobile industry, so it goes without saying that the original model has become a highly desirable collectible.

As a result, many people out there are willing to spend big bucks on an original iPhone in a good shape, and this auction is just living proof in this regard.

An Internet stranger agreed to pay over $35,000 on an original, sealed, and unopened iPhone launched in 2007, and as it turns out, it was actually one of the first models that got to see the daylight.

Sold for big bucks

MacRumors observed that the image on the box doesn’t come with the iTunes Store icon on the iPhone home screen, and this is a sign the iPhone was among the first batches produced by Apple. The iTunes Store app went live after the launch of the iPhone, and the device launched with it pre-loaded beginning in September 2007 when Apple shipped iOS (at that point known as iPhone OS) version 1.1.

“Unopened first generation original Apple iPhone, Model A1203, Order MA712LL/A (8GB). The box features a life-size image of the iPhone with twelve icons on the screen, indicating that it is from the earliest production (2007); a 13th icon, for iTunes, came later in the year. In brand new, factory-sealed condition,” the description of the iPhone on the auction page reads.

The bidding has already ended, with the winner agreeing to pay no more, no less than $35,414 for the iPhone. Needless to say, this is a collector’s piece, so don’t be too surprised if this smartphone ends up in a museum or in a collection alongside other rare gadgets.
