The first Flashback game, a sci-fi cinematic platformer praised for its innovative animation, was released exactly 30 years ago. During the Summer Game Fest live show, Microids unveiled the very first gameplay teaser for Flashback 2, thus reviving a franchise that’s been dormant for three decades.

Paul Cuisset, the figure responsible for the programming of the original game, is involved in the sequel as well alongside Microids Studio Lyon. More importantly, Microids announced that in order to pay tribute to the first Flashback game Paul Cuisset managed to bring back some team members like the game designer Thierry Perreau and the composer of the Amiga soundtrack, Raphael Gesqua.

Following the adventures of Conrad B. Hart, Flashback 2 will start after the defeat of the Master Brain. In the sequel, Conrad and his allies will once again face the Morphs species, which is threatening all civilizations.

To make things even worse, Conrad’s best friend Ian is being kidnapped, so it will be up to the players to find out who did it and their motivations. According to Microids, Flashback 2 will take players who already finished the first game to familiar places, including Neo Washington or the Jungle, but new locations like Neo Tokyo and a mysterious space station will be added too.

Since the first Flashback game was know for its innovative animation in the early 90’s, Microids has decided to achieve the same goal with the sequel. In that regard, Microids has hired the world renown stuntman Jamel Blissat (Marvel’s Moon Knight Oscar Isaac body double) to do Conrad B. Hart’s motion capture.

If you’re wondering when you’ll be able to play the game, we have the answer. Microids announced that Flashback 2 will be released in winter 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Also, a Nintendo Switch version will be launched in 2023.
