Video game developer Platinum Games and publisher Microsoft are announcing that they are delaying Scalebound to 2017 to make sure that the launch version of the title will offer the kind of quality and solid gameplay that fans of the studio who are interested in the new intellectual property are expecting from it.

In a new update on the official site, Hideki Kamiya, the director of the title, and the rest of the team involved in its creation, explain that they are currently happy with how the creation process is progressing and the kind of core features that they have created.

Scalebound is currently blending adventure, exploration and solid combat with a new take on multiplayer and combat mechanics that offer both scale and visceral moments.

The team at Platinum Games states, "In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned. We know you’re excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project that’s been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far."

Platinum Games also says that it plans to offer more details about the video game at some point in 2016, although it's unclear whether there are plans to feature it heavily during the Microsoft E3 2016 presentation or if a beta is planned to test some of the core elements and the infrastructure required to support them.

Scalebound is an Xbox One exclusive, and the delay might mean that it will be one of the games arriving in the spring of next year.

Platinum Games wants gamers to become friends with a dragon

Thuban is the creature that will accompany protagonist Drew in his adventures, able to fight alongside him and to give him more options when it comes to exploration of the world.

Platinum Games says that it is creating a special Artificial Intelligence module to make sure that the dragon behaves appropriately in any situation and to encourage gamers to interact with it as much as possible.

The game will deliver enhanced graphics by using the extra computing power offered by the Xbox One.

Scalebound will also feature a combat system that allows players to scale enemies and chain combos to deliver extensive damage, with Drew capable of transforming into a hybrid of human and dragon to boost his abilities and take out the most powerful opponents he meets.

The world of Draconis will encourage exploration and gamers will be able to get access to a special resource called Pulse from defeated enemies.

Scalebound was one of the video games that Microsoft mentioned when talking about the slate of exclusives that were supposed to boost the Xbox One during the year and the delay might be a problem for the company when it comes to sales later in the year.
