If you have Samurai Shodown on your Xbox One, you'll probably be disappointed to hear that you won't get a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X/S. SNK has just revealed the Samurai Shodown, which is currently on sale for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Epic Games) will be coming to Xbox Series X/S this winter.

The announcement doesn't include any reference to a PlayStation 5 version of the game, so we must assume this will be a timed-exclusive. There's also no mention of a free upgrade for owners of the Xbox One version, which is why we believe those who'd like to play the game on Xbox Series X/S will have to buy it again.

The Xbox Series X|S is Microsoft's most innovative and cutting-edge next-gen console which is ramping up to hit the market soon, and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of its massive presence in the gaming community,” said Samurai Shodown Producer, Yasuyuki Oda.

Samurai Shodown series, the weapon-based fighter launched back in 1993, has been revived last year when the game made its debut on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It's important to mention that Samurai Shodown is the first SNK game that uses Unreal Engine 4, which is why it looks better than any of the previous titles in the series.

The game takes place between the events of the 1993 game and Samurai Shodown V. The general consensus is that this is a reboot of the series rather than a sequel/prequel. There are 16 playable characters in Samurai Shodown, but 8 more have been added as downloadable content after the game's initial launch.

The game received favorable reviews from the media, so if you haven't yet played it and you're a fan of fighter games, you might want to check it out at some point.
