Samurai Shodown is a reboot of the series and takes place between the events of the 1993 game and Samurai Shodown V. It's been released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia last year, but now we have details about the PC version.

Developed by SNK Corporation and published by Athlon Games, Samurai Shodown will arrive on PC this spring, but there's a catch. The PC version of Samurai Shodown will be exclusively available via Epic Games Store, probably for at least one year.

This is the first Samurai Shodown title after 11 years, but the return of the series is marked by important improvements across all aspects of the game. Although Samurai Shodown will feature high-end visuals and gameplay, the game will remain faithful to the original series by reproducing the game mechanics and atmosphere that contributed to the success of the previous games.

The folks at Athlon Games announced the Samurai Shodown reboot includes a revolutionary feature that learns players’ game actions and patterns in order to create CPU-controlled “ghost” characters.

As mentioned earlier, the story of the upcoming game is set one year before the very first installment, in a time when warriors and combatants from various backgrounds and with their own goals are about to battle to fulfill their destinies.

During the Tenmei Era of Japanese history, Japan is beset by a terrible and looming evil, as fire, ruin and famine ran rampant throughout the country. Shizuka Gozen, the deceased spirit of a young woman who is possessed and trapped in Yomi, threatens to destroy Japan.

This why warriors from all across Japan and beyond the ocean, driven by their own needs and desires, converge to investigate these evil forces and vanquish them. Veterans of the series will be pleased to know that Samurai Shodown features a base roster of 17 playable characters, with extra ones available as downloadable content.
