Samsung has become fully committed to foldable phones, and in addition to improving the models it has already released, the South Koreans are also working on expanding the current lineup with new devices that would tackle other categories of buyers.

One of them is an affordable Galaxy Z Flip 3, which according to people familiar with the matter should see the daylight as soon as the next year.

A new report from GalaxyClub, however, indicates this likely called Galaxy Z Flip Lite will most likely lack 5G capabilities, with the device to instead go all-in on LTE.

In other words, this innovative device would miss on the feature everybody wants these days and which even Samsung is betting big on with its modern phone lineup.

Launch next year

Most likely, Samsung’s efforts to reduce the price of this new foldable phone would also include using an older chip, and it’s believed the company would go for the older Snapdragon 855 Plus, which itself only shipped with an LTE variant.

What this means is the Galaxy Z Flip 3 lineup will include multiple processor choices, with the Lite version (if this is indeed the name Samsung wants to use for the more affordable version) to be powered by the Snapdragon 855.

Needless to say, the company has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to foldable phones for now, but with the Galaxy S21 unveiling due next month, we should find out more rather sooner than later.

“Through our longstanding industry-leading partnerships, we established an open ecosystem for foldable devices and fostered UX innovation that enabled us to create an enhanced user experience with optimized app interactions and displays. The Z Fold2 was praised as a smartphone that reimagines what’s possible with mobile technology and I’m excited to say, it’s just a hint of what’s to come as we continue to explore, evolve and expand this category-changing space,” TM Roh, Samsung's President of Mobile, said earlier this month.
