Recent reports claim that Samsung plans to unveil a new social media service called "Uhssup," which could be integrated into the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ line-up that the tech giant will launch at MWC 2018.

According to Korean website HeraldCorp (via Android Community), Samsung will unveil a location-based Uhssup Samsung Social media product as an alternative to the popular WhatsApp, Facebook Messager, and even Twitter messaging and social media services.

It would appear that Samsung recently filed a trademark registration for the "SAMSUNG SOCIAL" name after previously registering "Uhssup" at the domestic patent office. The report claims that the social media service could go live on March 19, 2018.

Besides offering instant messaging capabilities, the rumored Uhssup social media service will let users share their current location in real time with friends and family. Also, there might be some compatibility with existing messaging apps.

Galaxy S9 owners will be the first to try Uhssup

If Uhssup sees the light of day this spring, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners will be the first to try it on their brand-new Android-powered smartphones, which Samsung plans to unveil during MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2018 on February 25.

However, it remains to be seen if Samsung's rumored social media service will be exclusive to the upcoming Galaxy S9 line-up or not. Considering the fact that it comes in the form of an app, it should work on older devices too.

But we don't know how many Samsung users will turn their backs to the already popular WhatsApp and Facebook Messager to use Samsung's proprietary social media platform, especially if it can't be used on older phones.

We'll find out more details about Uhssup later this week or early next one after Samsung's Unpacked event on February 25, 2018. Until then, stay tuned for the latest Android articles right here on our dedicated news section.
