Samsung is one of the companies that are trying to benefit from Windows Phone’s decline, as more users who are disappointed with Microsoft’s platform for one reason or another might be searching for a new device running either Android or iOS.

A recent update for Samsung’s Smart Switch makes it super simple for Windows Phone users to move to Android devices sold by the South Korean company and the firm hopes that this would help increase the number of people who decide to migrate to its own models.

Smart Switch is an automated solution that can take care, either with a cable or wirelessly, of transfers of important data, such as contacts, messages, photos, and videos, so once you purchase a Samsung device, you can retrieve all of these from your old phone without too much effort.

iOS 9 support also available

Windows Phone 8.1 is one of the latest platforms supported by Smart Switch, which is now working with iOS 9 too - although we think that iOS 10 support should be added as well, given the fact that there are bigger chances for some people who upgrade to Apple’s latest version or to the iPhone 7 to be disappointed and seek a replacement in the Android world.

Smart Switch is already pre-loaded on the company’s latest models, including the Galaxy S7 and the Note 7, but everyone else can download it from the Google Play store free of charge.

While it’s a good thing that companies add support for Windows Phone, this isn’t one of those moments where Microsoft can be happy about it, as Samsung’s update is actually making the transition from Windows devices to Android a lot smoother.

It remains to be seen how many people actually decide to take advantage of this new update and make the switch to Android, but with Microsoft saying almost nothing about the fate of Windows phones, many users see no reason not to do it.
