14 DAY TRIAL // We reported last week about a clamshell version of Samsung Galaxy S6, which might be released in China very soon. Samsung fans will be pleased to know that the South Korean company recently made the clamshell official in the Mainland.
Unfortunately, there are no details on availability and pricing options, but we know it's likely to be exclusively available in China, just like many other clamshell smartphones launched by Samsung in the past.
The so-called Samsung W2016 is clamshell variant of the Galaxy S6, so potential customers should expect the same hardware with few exceptions.
Samsung W2016 comes with two 3.9-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen displays that support HD (1280 x 768 pixels) resolution, which makes sense considering the phone's clamshell form factor.
Just like the Galaxy S6, Samsung W2016 comes equipped with a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor clocked at 2.1GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and a Mali-T760MP8 graphics processing unit.
The second flip phone launched by Samsung
Samsung W2016 boasts an impressive 16-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, OIS (optical image stabilization), f/1.9 aperture, LED flash and 4K video recording. There's also a secondary 5-megapixel selfies camera in the front.
The smartphone is coated with the same Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and features a metal frame around its body, just like the Galaxy S6 series.
Connectivity-wise, Samsung W2016 is an all-rounder. It packs 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio and GPS with AGPS and GLONASS.
The bad news is the W2016 drains energy from a much smaller 2,000 mAh battery, which supports both wireless and fast charging.
Last but not least, Samsung W2016 runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, but we don't rule out a Marshmallow upgrade in the coming months.
As mentioned earlier, there are no details on availability and price, but Samsung W2016 will be available in both Golden and Silver color options.
