Samsung has been busy with its MWC conference in the past few days, but the company also seems to go forward with an exciting new phone, the Galaxy X. The foldable smartphone Galaxy X was trademarked in South Korea, which signals the fact that it’ll be launched to the market soon.

The trademark application was filed on February 24, and sadly, it doesn’t reveal anything about the upcoming phone, according to a recent report. In fact, information about the Galaxy X is quite scarce; Samsung is doing a good job at keeping this phone a secret.

Rumors say that the Galaxy X could have a 5-inch display that folds out into a 7-inch tablet, making it a very exciting foldable smartphone. The phone might feature a 4k AMOLED display that folds in half. Samsung is said to roll out 100,000 units of this device at first, in order to examine the market’s reaction, but that plan is surely subject to change.

The Galaxy X could arrive at the end of 2017 or the first half of 2018

Some reports say that Samsung won’t out the Galaxy X until the end of this year or even the first few months of 2018. The device maker wishes to provide the market with a reliable foldable smartphone, and won’t take any chances when it comes to this new device.

Rumors from the past few weeks even indicated that Samsung would showcase the foldable smartphone during MWC, behind closed doors and only to some business partners.

The Galaxy X might not be the only foldable smartphone to hit the market in the coming years; Apple has already patented the technology and LG is also working on a display that could fold in half. Oppo even showed off a prototype of its foldable phone with a display that folds in half, and although it appeared to be a bit bulky, the end product could be thinner.
