Rumors of the upcoming Gear Fit 2 fitness band have been going around for some time now and images of the device have even been leaked recently, on Samsung’s official website.

New information has surfaced, Pulse News points out to the fact that the Samsung Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX wireless earbuds will be launched next month in South Korea.

Recent rumors indicate that the Gear Fit 2 will come with clear improvements compared to its predecessor, although the display size will stay the same at 1.84 inches. It will pack 4GB of storage under the AMOLED screen, together with integrated GPS, water resistance, and multiple fitness features.

In fact, it is said that the Gear Fit 2 will have IP68 certification, which means that the band can be submerged in over 1.5 meters of cold water for 30 minutes. This allows the band to be used for snorkeling, surfing, swimming and other sports.

Gear Fit 2 will be packed with more fitness monitoring functions compared to its predecessor, Gear Fit released in April 2014. The new fitness band is expected to come with a built-in GPS for tracking outdoor activities, together with a heart rate sensor and a pedometer, found on the first model as well. It will also have a more robust design, but similar to that of its predecessor.

Bio-Processor for health-based statistics

One of the novelties surrounding the Gear Fit 2 will be the embedded Samsung Bio-Processor with the capacity of measuring body fat, skeletal muscle mass, heart rate, heart rhythm, skin temperature and galvanic skin response (GSR), which is the change in electrical properties of the skin based on sweat production. The processor will have the capacity to generate physical information by combining data readings.

It seems that Samsung took it a step further when it came to medical readings, as the Bio-Processor will be able to provide various health statistics like showing the electrical activity of the heart and a graph with skin temperature.

Samsung’s Gear Fit 2 will be the first product that the South Korean company launches, after last year Samsung’s Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong stated in China that the company was set to focus its attention on the mobile healthcare industry, as a new growth engine for Samsung.
