Samsung discontinued the production and sale of the Galaxy Note 7, following multiple reports of units catching fire. While several investigations are currently ongoing, Samsung will also focus on retrieving Note 7 units from customers.

Owners of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones can contact the place of purchase for receiving a full refund or picking another smartphone from the retailer or carrier’s lineup.

Those who purchased the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone directly from Samsung have the option to get a full refund or exchange their phones for a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge.

Many retailers and carriers are offering incentives to help convince owners to return their phones, while some customers can even keep freebies that they received for the purchase of a Note 7. In addition, some retailers like Amazon have announced that customers can return their Note 7 smartphones, even if the 30-day return window ended. They can also return accessories purchased for the Galaxy Note 7.

Owners of second-hand Note 7 units can exchange the device for a Galaxy S7

However, the Galaxy Note 7 has been on the market for several months now, enough time for some units to have become second hand. Those Note 7 owners simply can’t return the phone to the seller, since some might not have a receipt or warranty.

According to Android Central, Samsung will include second-hand and used Note 7 units in the refund and exchange program as well. Owners can call Samsung at 1-844-365-6197 to make arrangements for returning their smartphones to the South Korean company and replace them with a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung has increased production for these two smartphones, as it anticipates that many customers will wish to stay loyal to the brand and get the latest flagship from the Galaxy S series.

This is definitely the right move from Samsung, considering that the Galaxy Note 7 might pose safety risks and several investigations are currently underway.
