Only available in China, at least for the time being

If you like the look of Huawei’s P20 series with the gradient colors, there’s no need to give up on Samsung.

That’s because the South Korean firm has just launched its very own Galaxy phone featuring such a coloring, and with a little luck, it could expand it to other models too.

Samsung Galaxy A9 Star, which is exclusively available in China, is the first Samsung model to feature a look a la Huawei P20. This device boasts a pink to purple gradient back, and although it looks… err, interesting in pictures, it remains to be seen how it all feels when held in hand.

Not a P20 rival

While the Galaxy A9 Star does look like a Huawei P20, it’s not by any means supposed to be a rival to this model.

The device lands in the form of a mid-ranger with a 6.3-inch Infinity Display but without a home button. A fingerprint sensor is placed on the back, and it features a vertically-mounted dual-camera system similar to the approach used by Apple on the iPhone X, of course without the fingerprint reader.

The phone comes with 4GB RAM and sports 64GB storage, while the camera setup is a 24-megapixel unit paired with a 16-megapixel version. A 16-megapixel camera is placed on the front for selfies.

Samsung Galaxy A9 Star also features a Bixby button to launch the digital assistant more easily, and it runs on a 3,700 mAh battery that’s supposed to get you through the day without much effort.

Certainly, the A9 Star is an interesting model, especially now with this new gradient version. The device went on sale earlier this year in standard black and white colors, so the addition of this new configuration should give it a boost, at least in terms of marketing, for Chinese buyers.
