Samsung is working on an upcoming mid-range smartphone, the 2017 iteration of the Galaxy J7, which has leaked in multiple reports recently. The smartphone is said to arrive at Tracfone under the name of Galaxy J7 Sky Pro.

But the device will carry a different moniker at other carriers like Sprint, Boost and Virgin, according to Evan Blass. The SM-J727 will be known as Galaxy J7 Perx at some of these carriers, while Verizon will sell it under the name of Galaxy J7 V.

The naming scheme might be a bit confusing for customers, but it will essentially be the same phone. The handset will also be made available at AT&T and US Cellular, but it’s unclear under what name.

Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy mid-ranger is said to feature a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection. It might run a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There are rumors of 3GB of RAM, but that remains to be seen.

It will offer satisfactory performance for a mid-range smartphone, while pricing will play an important part in consumers' decision to buy. Sadly, there’s no information on the price tag for the upcoming smartphone, but since it will be offered by carriers, it should be made available in combination with a variety of plans.

The SM-J727 is also expected to feature an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie shooter in the front, while running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Details about its battery capacity are unclear at this point. The new phone will also have a fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS options.

The launch date is unknown at this point, but it might actually be April 10 since that was the date on the phone’s display in a previously revealed render.
