Samsung is well-known for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series, but not many know that the South Korean company remains one of the few to continue to launch handsets that would feature clamshell design.

However, Samsung's flip phones only sell in Asia and there aren't even that many launched each year. In fact, the South Korean company only releases these devices once or twice per year at very high prices.

The new clamshell smartphone coming from Samsung is codenamed SM-G9198 and has just been spotted at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission.

According to a new report, the smartphone comes with two touchscreen displays, which kind of normal for clamshell handsets. Both displays features 3.91-inches in size and supports HD (720p) resolution.

If you think that these clamshell devices are meant for the mid-range tier then you're definitely mistaken. Usually, all Samsung smartphones that feature a flip form factor come with high-end specs.

Don't expect this to come out of China

The same goes for Samsung SM-9198 which is powered by a 64-bit 1.8GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and an Adreno 418 graphics processing unit.

Furthermore, the clamshell is packed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded for up to 64GB.

Surprisingly, the smartphone has been confirmed to run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

Last but not least, the SM-9198 features a 16-megapixel photo snapper on the back with LED flash, autofocus and video recording, as well as secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front.

As mentioned earlier, this Samsung flip smartphone will soon be launched in the Mainland and most likely will remain just a Chinese affair.

Customers in China should expect the SM-9198 to be quite expensive, but for the time being there are no details on pricing options.
