Samsung is definitely one of the biggest smartphone makers in the market, but the South Korean company is also an important supplier of phone components. A new report released by Korean Herald shows that Samsung is actually the biggest supplier of OLED displays for mobile devices.

As it turns out, the report released by UBI research, a market research firm specializing in OLED, shows that Samsung’s display shipments of organic-light emitting diode panels have more than doubled during the past year.

The increase is mainly due to the fact that global smartphone manufacturers have increasingly adopted OLED displays on their devices.

The report also shows that Samsung’s OLED shipments have reportedly increased to about 86.7 million units in the first quarter of this year, which stretches between the start of January and the end of March.

It seems that global OLED shipments rose to 91.3 million units, but Samsung got the biggest share of the total, approximately 95%. This means that Samsung truly dominates the market of OLED displays for mobile smartphones.

A good chunk of smartphones available on the market have Samsung OLED displays and more will be released in the next period of time. In fact, Samsung has recently become the main supplier of OLED displays for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7, which will see the light of day this fall.

Samsung’s total shipments of OLED displays should increase

The research firm also showed that flexible OLEDs, which were incorporated in Samsung’s latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S7 Edge, amounted to 14% of the company’s total shipments in Q1 2016. The company predicted that the figure will increase in the following years. In addition, Samsung is expected to launch a “foldable phone” with OLED technology in 2017.

The report also shows that the global OLED market is currently dominated by Samsung and LG, with some Chinese manufacturers that are currently making their way on the market. Samsung is also expected to increase the production capacity of OLED displays as it continues to heavily invest in its production of OLED displays.
