Samsung is a company that’s betting all-in on foldable devices, and according to official statistics shared this week, this strategy is totally paying off.

In a post published a few hours ago, the South Korean company explains that sales of foldable devices have skyrocketed in 2021, and what’s more, it expects the growth to continue in the coming years.

But just how many phones did Samsung end up selling when it comes to foldables? Quite a lot of them, though the company hasn’t shared any specifics. However, Samsung says sales of this form factor increased no less than 4 times in 2021 as compared to the previous year.

“When Samsung Electronics revealed its first prototype of a flexible display back in 2011, few people realized they were witnessing a glimpse into the mobile industry’s future. Now, a decade later, Samsung has shipped 4 times more foldable devices in 2021 than in 2020, exceeding the three-fold market growth that analysts expected,” the South Korean company explained.

“Consumer enthusiasm for Samsung foldables is exemplified by the success of the Galaxy Z series. In the first month since launch, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 exceeded total accumulative sales of Samsung foldable devices in 2020.”

New Galaxy S just around the corner

Clearly, Samsung is very optimistic when it comes to the market performance of its foldable devices, and the company says it expects sales to go up by no less than 10 times by 2023.

“With foldable smartphone shipments predicted to grow tenfold by 2023, let’s take a look at the key moments, top innovations and important partnerships that have helped make foldable devices the next big thing,” it says.

In the meantime, however, the South Korean company also keeps investing in other products too. Samsung is getting ready to launch the new version of the Galaxy S lineup, and it’s believed the company is also planning a new Note model that could see the daylight in the summer.
