The adoption of 5G is increasing at a very fast pace, and Samsung is obviously one of the companies betting big on this new technology.

The South Koreans claim the use of 5G across the world will increase substantially this year, with a recent estimate indicating that more than half of the phones selling in 2022 would come with support for 5G.

Kim Sung-koo, Vice President of mobile business, says more people would be looking into upgrading their phones, and in most cases, the new purchase will be a 5G phone.

“Our strategy in the mass tier is to actively capture demand from people seeking to replace their phones with 5G models,” he said according to local media.

Samsung is already one of the companies whose phones come with 5G speeds, and nearly its entire lineup of new-generation devices includes such capabilities.

Rising sales

At the same time, Samsung says it expects solid growth in other industry sectors as well, including for DRAM chips.

“We expect strong fundamental demand centering around servers, and solid mobile demand from expansion of 5G models. Some organizations have forecast DRAM prices could reverse in the first half. We think this is a possible scenario,” Han Jin-man, Executive VP of memory chip business, said according to the same source.

In other words, Samsung expects the market to recover this year, and most likely, the whole thing would gain more pace in the second half of the year.

Market research firms also anticipate an improvement of the global chip supply towards the end of 2022, with the whole thing to speed up in the first quarters of the next year. However, nobody can correctly anticipate the end of the global chip shortage right now, as it all depends on the health issue and the lockdowns it could bring in certain parts of the world.
