The Galaxy Fold Lite won’t land sooner than 2021

Samsung is getting ready to launch the Galaxy Fold 2 in early August, but at the same time, the South Korean phone maker is also working on something that could further boost the adoption of foldable phones all over the world.

It’s the Galaxy Fold Lite, a more affordable version of the Galaxy Fold which could come with a series of cost-saving measures specifically supposed to keep the price as low as possible.

For example, this particular model wouldn’t feature 5G but only support 4G, something which at some level makes sense given it would be aimed at global markets and right now not all countries have 5G.

Initially, the Galaxy Fold Lite was expected to go live this year, especially as Samsung has become one of the pioneers in the foldable phone market. And naturally, the South Koreans wanted to be among the first to bring a more affordable model to customers.

Galaxy Fold Lite going live next year

But now it looks like there’s a very small chance to get our hands on this phone this year, as Samsung has reportedly reconsidered its plans and is now pushing back the debut of the Galaxy Fold Lite to 2021. In other words, you shouldn’t hold your breath for a cheaper Samsung foldable phone for now, albeit for the time being, it’s still not clear why the company wants to delay the device.

It’s a more or less risky decision, especially if the Galaxy Fold Lite is based on the first Galaxy Fold model. Launching it in 2021 could mean the device might be fairly outdated, and despite the foldable screen, the tech specs and the rest of the features could make it kind of late to the party.

Of course, nothing is certain for the time being, so we should all take such reports with a healthy dose of skepticism until something official surfaces.
