Leak claims the company needs more time to build the chip

We’ve known for a while that Samsung was planning a dedicated chip for Samsung Galaxy devices, but as it turns out, the company needs quite a lot of time to make it happen.

According to Ice Universe on Twitter, Samsung is indeed working on a processor for Galaxy phones, but on the other hand, it wouldn’t be ready until the Galaxy S25 sees the daylight. This means the processor would only be ready at some point in 2025, which means we’re still some three years away from the moment Samsung’s very own chip goes live in the first mobile device.

At this point, Samsung already has its own chip, the Exynos, but the company wants to push the performance capabilities of its Galaxy phones to the upper limit with a more powerful processor that would be specifically optimized for these models.

Current chips on Galaxy phones

At this point, Samsung uses a mixed approach for its Galaxy phones. While some models are equipped with its very own Exynos chips, others come with Snapdragon processors developed by Qualcomm.

In the last few years, however, Samsung has been under constant criticism for the performance offered by its chips, with tests showing more often than not that the Exynos processors delivered worse figures than the Qualcomm counterparts.

Most likely, by investing in a chip of its own, Samsung hopes to address this controversy once and for all, therefore going for this processor exclusively on Galaxy phones. In other words, both Exynos and Snapdragon could be dropped from the lineup, especially on the Galaxy S lineup that spearheads Samsung’s push in the mobile market.

It goes without saying everything is still in the rumor stage right now, so you’d better take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism for the time being.
