We recently reported that Samsung was working on a new LED notification tool for its upcoming smartphones. Now, it seems that information on this new Smart Glow feature has surfaced online, revealing some details on this new technology.

Samsung is expected to incorporate a new LED notification feature on its upcoming Galaxy J2 (2016 edition) smartphone. It comes under the name of Smart Glow and serves as an alternative to the existing notification LED setup on handsets in the Galaxy series.

The Smart Glow is represented by a glowing ring around the rear camera lens, with a report from SamMobile showing that it will have three functions, namely Priority Alerts, Usage Alerts, and a Selfie Assist feature that would allow users to take selfies with the rear camera.

Priority Alerts enable users to assign colors to contacts, as the LED notification appears when the user receives a phone call, message or email. Different colors are chosen for different contacts, and the feature will be quite similar to that on the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge.

More functions will come to the Smart Glow

Moreover, Usage Alerts will light up the LED in multiple colors to inform the user when the battery runs low and the phone should be charged. The third feature is Selfie Assist, and it's quite interesting, as it lets users take selfies with the rear camera. The Smart Glow feature will be able to detect the user's face and light up in blue when the phone is ready to take the image. Pictures are taken within two seconds.

The report also reveals that Samsung will be adding more features to the Smart Glow, like alerts for storage, memory and even data usage. Samsung is also working on Weather ring feature to provide weather information through Smart Glow. Rear cameras on Samsung devices will be used for monitoring the heart rate while the Health Ring will deliver information through Smart Glow, but it's unclear in which way.
