A powerful flip phone that will be exclusive to China

Samsung is about to launch a slightly unusual Android smartphone in the next couple of days. The so-called Samsung “Veyron,” or SM-W2017 as many probably know it, is expected to be revealed on November 3.

The only thing unusual about the SM-W2017 is definitely its form factor. There are few handset makers that are still using the “clamshell” design for its smartphones these days, although if we go back several years, this was the preferred form factor for many companies.

Ahead of its November 3 announcement, the SM-W2017 was spotted in a few live pictures recently published by Playfuldroid. It looks like Samsung wants the clamshell to be really “unusual” since the smartphone will certainly be available in … Rose Gold.

Rose Gold is a color that not many choose for their daily driver, but in some countries, including China, is the color that many are looking for when buying their smartphones. If you didn't follow our previous stories about the SM-W2017, then you're probably not aware that the clamshell will be released in China.

Interesting specs, but limited availability

There's little to no chance that Samsung will bring it to other countries, but some of the SM-W2107 sequels made it to India and a few other Asian countries months after their release in China, so anything is possible.

Spec-wise, Samsung SM-W2017 is a true flagship. The clamshell will pack a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

The 12-megapixel camera on the back could feature the same lens as the one on the Galaxy S7, but the information hasn't been confirmed yet. Moreover, the flip phone features a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera in the front.

Also, let's not forget that Samsung's flagship clamshell comes with USB Type-C port and fast charging technology. The phone's battery does seem a little under par in comparison with the rest of its specs.

A 2,300 mAh battery will barely get you through one day of full use. Also, the phone will be powered by Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and it will sport a decent 4.2-inch display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

The Rose Gold version of the SM-W2017 is likely to cost around $1,500 outright, but, as mentioned earlier, it will be exclusive to China.
