The DeX Station seems to support Windows phones as well

Back in October 2015, Microsoft rolled out the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the company’s latest Windows 10 Mobile flagships that introduced Continuum, a new feature making it possible to work just like on a desktop when connected to a bigger screen.

To enable Continuum, users needed a dedicated adapter that established the connection between the phone and the bigger display.

Earlier this year, Samsung launched its very own Galaxy S8 flagship lineup with a similar feature called DeX and working with a DeX Dock which played the same role of connecting the phone to the larger screen.

And as it turns out, Samsung’s dock works with Microsoft’s Lumia 950 XL quite flawlessly, despite the fact that the Windows phone was launched nearly one year and a half ago.

How this is possible is not yet clear, but it’s very likely the two docks share the same underpinnings, which means that the Samsung Galaxy S8 could also work with Microsoft’s own adapter.

Microsoft is one of the big supporters of Samsung’s DeX, as the company worked with Samsung to optimize its Office productivity suite to be used on a bigger screen with a Galaxy S8 Android flagship. Furthermore, Redmond itself is selling the smartphone in its own stores, making it the very first Android phone that’s available in a Microsoft store in history.

As far as the Windows 10 Mobile Continuum goes, Microsoft promised several significant improvements, like window mode and taskbar support. And although these new features were expected to become available with the Windows 10 Creators Update rolling out to mobile devices as we speak, Microsoft decided to hold them back for a little longer, and now their future is again uncertain.

On the other hand, features like these are already available on Samsung’s DeX, so it’s no surprise that more and more Windows phone fans are tempted to make the switch to Android lately.
