You could almost hear the crickets; it was that funny

As Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung affords to make fun of the iPhone every once in a while, although in some cases, their attempts end up with nothing but crickets.

This is exactly what happened during the launch event of the Galaxy S9, when Samsung’s executives once again tried to mock Apple, only to generate zero laughs from the audience.

Not only that these jokes are getting old, but Samsung appears to be trying the same thing over and over again, and people nearly expect the company to poke fun at Apple during the unveiling of its new models.

In the case of the Galaxy S9, Samsung used this occasion to tell the world that they managed to create an edge-to-edge screen with nearly zero bezels and without having to build a notch. Unlike Apple, that is.

“When we released the Infinity Display, most people had never seen anything like it. Its ground-breaking design offered more screen in less space, and quickly set a new industry standard. With the S9, we’ve built on this foundation, taking the same immersive end-to-end display, and refining it even further. We’ve created a design so sleek and unified, you can hardly tell where the screen ends. And as always, you know, there’s no notch,” Samsung’s executive said during the launch event.

Fingerprint sensor and Animoji

And then, the focused was switched to the fingerprint reader because, you know, the Galaxy S9 has one. Again, unlike the iPhone X.

“Take the fingerprint scanner for example, which we all know is one of the most popular ways we like to unlock our phones. Which is why we didn’t get rid of it. Instead we listened carefully to your feedback and we moved the fingerprint scanner directly below the camera.”

On the other hand, Samsung’s attempt to copy Apple’s Animoji has more or less backfired because even the company’s executives spell the name of the feature wrong.

Instead of calling it AR Emoji, the actual name of the feature, Erin Willis, Samsung’s Channel Marketing chief, said the Galaxy S9 comes with Animoji (which is actually offered on the iPhone X; maybe Samsung’s employees use the iPhone X as well?).

You can watch both the failed attempt to mock Apple and the Animoji reference in the videos below (the latter starts at 1:13:55):
