It's time to carry the fat-measuring obsession with you

Heart rate and step counts can now be easily measured on your smartphone, however, Samsung wants you to measure some more stuff, like body fat.

Body fat is something people wouldn't really want to think about, because if they do fall in the trap of thinking about it, they will be thinking only about that: how much body fat did I get today.

One of the company's patent applications at WIPO would use bioelectrical impedance to measure your body fat levels (it means that it will see how much your body fat can stop electricity through certain sensors). All you really have to do is grab your phone and the four sensors installed will do the rest. They will most likely be embedded in the screen cover of your phone and be used together with it.

This new set of sensors will allow Samsung to continue its health research advancement in mobile applications, and by the looks of it the new tech will probably turn into the next Galaxy.

It's very much probable that the new sensor will not be very accurate when detecting and measuring body fat, as phone-based sensors generally aren't extremely accurate. However, it becomes clear that as long as the numbers won't be spot on, people won't be buying into this new tech and Samsung would've invested in this new patent for nothing.
