Samsung is also said to show off the Galaxy S8

Samsung won’t be announcing its next flagship, the Galaxy S8, during the year’s biggest tech event, MWC 2017. However, the smartphone giant will attend the conference and reportedly unveil the new Galaxy Tab S3.

The unveiling of Samsung’s next flagship tablet won’t be the most exciting event during the company’s press conference. The Korean smartphone maker is also said to screen a one-minute video of the Galaxy S8, hopefully showing off its design and maybe some specs.

If that weren’t enough, reports from South Korea are saying that Samsung might be showcasing a prototype of a foldable smartphone during MWC 2017, set to take place in Barcelona this month.

Prototype showcased behind closed doors

What we can gather from this latest report by ETNews is that Samsung has already developed such a smartphone and that the company feels confident enough about its technology to showcase it during a big event like MWC 2017. But the bad news is that only a select group of individuals will be able to see the phone.

Samsung plans to exhibit a prototype of the foldable smartphone in a private exhibition room, where only a few individuals will be allowed to enter. It’s unclear who will get access to the smartphone, but it’s safe to say that it won’t be showed off to all MWC participants.

The report mentions that Samsung will be showcasing a number of inward and outward-folding devices during MWC 2017, but only the latter have a greater chance of being later commercialized, in terms of product quality.

The South Korean device maker is expected to use MWC 2017 to test the appeal of a foldable smartphone and convince other device makers to place orders for such displays. Samsung has yet to confirm the information and we’re not quite sure that the company will be showcasing the highly rumored and anticipated Galaxy X smartphone with a foldable display. Rumors about the Galaxy X have been surfacing for quite a while now, as it was first known under the code name Project Valley.
