The release of Samsung's latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 7, didn't exactly go as planned, and this puts a lot of pressure on the next premium smartphones the company intends to bring to the market. A report reveals that Samsung might take inspiration from Apple and create its very own proprietary headphone jack and thus ditch the 3.5mm one from upcoming flagships.

The report issued by DigitalMusicNews says that Samsung has been exploring the possibility of incorporating its very own proprietary headphone jack on upcoming smartphones. The company is reportedly “actively and aggressively” working on this new option. Samsung representatives have declined to comment on the matter.

Apparently, the new headphone jack will be quite different to the USB Type-C port that has been incorporated on many recent Android smartphones, including the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. Samsung's strategy will be aimed at creating an easy and cost-free or extremely low-cost licensing so that other manufacturers of Android smartphones would be encouraged to adopt it.

Samsung could release an adapter for the new headphone jack

Samsung could release an adapter in order to tackle potential issues regarding incompatibility with the new headphone jack. Apple adopted a similar strategy with the release of its latest smartphone, the iPhone 7. The company decided to remove the headphone jack completely, which took the whole market by surprise.

The fruit named company also released wireless AirPod headphones, which many said can get lost very easily. Still, Apple does offer users dongles in the box so they can connect their previous headphones to the new iPhone. Apple's move wasn't that difficult to achieve considering that the company's proprietary Lighting port has been solely on company products for some time now.

Samsung may be facing some difficulties when it comes to convincing other manufacturers of Android devices to stray away from such a long-term standard. Another matter that comes to mind is short-range audio delivery options, of which the most popular is certainly Bluetooth. The biggest question about Samsung's plans for a proprietary headphone jack is whether consumers will respond in a positive way or not.
