The company will just focus on foldables and the Galaxy S

Now that the Galaxy S22 is finally official, Samsung can take a break and discuss about its long-term plans, especially as everybody’s wondering whether the South Koreans plan to bring back the famous Note or not.

The Note was released in 2020, and then Samsung skipped the release of a refreshed model in 2021, more or less indicating the device would return at one point in 2022.

Many people hope the Note would still make a comeback in the summer, but in a statement for Bloomberg, Samsung’s mobile chief TM Roh seems to suggest this wouldn’t be the case.

The company will just focus on the Galaxy S and the foldable models, with the Note apparently not included in its short-term plans.

“In the near term, our operation will focus on a two-track strategy: flagship S series in the first half of the year and innovative foldable lineup in the second half. We will keep this strategy until there’s another major breakthrough and we are working hard to make it happen,” the Samsung executive said.

Galaxy S Ultra, the new Note

Samsung sees little reason to launch a Note, mostly because the support for the S Pen, as well as a series of other exclusive features have transitioned to the Galaxy S Ultra model.

“From creative capabilities and productivity, to power and performance, the Galaxy S22 Ultra brings everything you love about the Note experience — including its signature S Pen — to the S series. Galaxy S22 Ultra joins the new Galaxy S series of devices — Galaxy S22 and S22+ — offering every feature of those devices plus new added features for the best of the S and Note series,” Samsung said about the new Galaxy S22 Ultra.

“For the first time ever, Note users’ favorite built-in S Pen is coming to an S series device — and it’s the fastest, most responsive S Pen we’ve ever made. With 70% lower latency you can write and draw more naturally on your S22 Ultra’s expansive screen, and explore apps in new ways.”
