Company to launch Always Connected PC this year

Now that Qualcomm announced a new processor to power Always Connected PCs, Microsoft can focus more on the work it does together with partners to bring new devices to the market.

And of the first such partners to launch a new Windows 10 ARM device is none other than Samsung, which will officially join this push later this year.

Samsung will be building its own Always Connected PC powered by Qualcomm’s just-announced Snapdragon 850 processor, and while no specifics are available, there’s no doubt the company will focus on the same features as the rest of the OEMs.

Windows 10 ARM devices are particularly built to deliver longer battery life without compromising performance and in a very portable package. The first-generation PCs, however, left a lot to be desired in terms of performance, but this is actually the purpose of the new processor, which is supposed to resolve most of the complaints aimed at the original models.

Devices to launch in late 2018

Needless to say, Samsung released a typical press release statement to praise the Always Connected PC strategy, pointing out that the company is always hungry for innovations in the PC market.

“At Samsung, we understand the unique needs of our consumers and aim to create new innovations to support their ‘on-the-go’ lifestyle,” said Kyungsik Choi, executive vice president and head of strategic marketing office, mobile communications business, Samsung Electronics.

“This collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and their Snapdragon 850 Mobile Compute Platform will allow us to provide always on, always connected mobile computing experiences for our customers.”

The first devices powered by the Snapdragon 850 processor, including Samsung’s, are projected to hit the market just ahead of the holiday season later this year. Several other OEMs are expected to join the effort, including HP, Lenovo, and ASUS, so it remains to be seen how Samsung wants to set its models apart from the competition.
