Samsung's recall of the Galaxy Note 7 marked a major turning point for the South Korean company, as well as for the smartphone market. Reports of phones catching fire have shifted the market's attention towards consumer safety.

It seems that Samsung isn't the only smartphone manufacturer that's been dealing with smartphones catching fire or downright exploding. DigiTimes reports that Xiaomi has commissioned a third-party organization to investigate two cases of explosions of its smartphones in China.

The cases occurred recently and involved a 6.44-inch Xiaomi Mi Max. The device apparently caused a fire in Xian on September 5, when the owner was charging the phone using the original charger. And as it turns out, the incident even caused damages to the owner's house.

Another Xiaomi Mi 4c device exploded and brought harm to its owner

The second case involved a Xiaomi Mi 4c which exploded in the owner's back pocket. The smartphone caused third-degree burns to the owner, who claimed that he bought the device from the company's official Mi.com website.

The investigation that Xiaomi commissioned will look into the causes that triggered these two events. Xiaomi declared that the two cases were accidents and the company will be offering compensation to the affected victims.

Still, this is not the first time that a Xiaomi device has been involved in such an incident. Back in August, there were some reports of a Xiaomi Mi 5 which exploded and images of the incident were posted on China's social network Weibo.

The number of cases isn't that prominent, as compared to the Galaxy Note 7, but they are enough to prompt an extensive investigation from the company. Samsung decided to recall 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in order to avoid such incidents from occurring again, but Xiaomi wouldn't be able to implement such a measure considering that the phones that caught fire belonged to different series.
