The 5G party keeps attracting more and more names from the mobile industry, but up to this point, it looks like Samsung is the company that managed to secure the lion’s share.

And according to The Korea Herald, the South Korean firm currently controls 34.4% of the entire 5G market, at it shipped no less than 8.3 million 5G phones in the first quarter of the year.

This is impressive, to say the least, but Huawei isn’t too far either, as the Chinese firm accounted for 32.2% of all sales with 8 million shipped 5G phones.

Other companies like Vivo, Xiaomi, and OPPO also performed well, but for now, Samsung remains the king of 5G phones overall.

Apple, where’s Apple?

But as you’ll probably notice, there’s one big name missing from the list. Apple, which is typically considered Samsung’s fiercest rival, will launch its own 5G iPhones later this year, at which point sales of 5G smartphones are expected to record a huge boom.

And while many expect Apple to overtake Samsung in terms of sold 5G phones, there’s no doubt Samsung is playing its card right.

The South Korean firm originally launched 5G support only on its high-end phones, which are obviously the most expensive, thus limiting the adoption of the new technology. But by bringing it to mid-range phones, which very often bring home the bacon and help secure a bigger market share, Samsung managed to increase sales of 5G phones quite substantially.

As for Apple, the company will bet big on 5G iPhones, with the launch scheduled to take place in September. There’s no doubt Huawei won’t just sit tight and watch the fight, so expect some changes on the 5G front from the Chinese manufacturer as well, so this is all become a battle that’s really entertaining to watch.
