Samsung is expected to unveil the new Galaxy S8 in April, during a dedicated event in New York City, and it seems that the company has already started testing the new phone. A new report reveals that both variants of the Galaxy S8 are being tested in China.

The early tests are conducted on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus or Edge, the full variant names for the upcoming phone are a bit unclear. The international version of the Galaxy S8 is said to be running software version G950FXXU0APLH, while the S8 Plus will run G955FXXU0APLH. The variants for China run G9500ZCU0APLF and G9550ZCU0APLF, according to Nashville Chatter, via GSMArena.

If the report is true, then it means that Samsung is taking more precautions and making sure that its upcoming flagship is thoroughly tested before being released to the market about four months from now. Following the Note7 fiasco, company officials did say that quality assurance procedures would be significantly improved.

The Galaxy S8 will come in two variants

The Galaxy S8 is said to come in two variants and both of them will have curved displays. The Edge moniker was used for differentiating between the flat-screen Galaxy S7 and dual-curved Galaxy S7 Edge, but since both Galaxy S8 models will have a curved display, one of them might be called the S8 Plus.

In addition, one of the smartphones could feature a 6-inch display, much larger than the rumored 5.1-inch curved display on the other one. However, that remains to be seen.

Moreover, the Galaxy S8 might feature an S Pen as an external accessory and the stylus might bring some of the improved features that were previously found on the Note 7. Samsung’s own virtual assistant Bixby could be included on the Galaxy S8, together with a Continuum-like functionality that would allow users to connect their phones to a monitor and get full PC functionality. However, it remains to be seen if Samsung would include this new feature on the Galaxy S8.
