The company may be conducting a soak test

Samsung is expected to release Android Nougat to Galaxy S7 and S7 edge this year, and it is said to update its flagship phones to the 7.1.1 Nougat version. But before the company begins its full-scale rollout, it seems that it has decided to conduct a soak test.

Samsung has started to push out an update to Android 7.0 Nougat to some users, according to SamMobile. The update carries build number G935FXXU1DPLR and features the January Security Patch.

Apparently, the update is part of a soak test, a type of performance test that verifies the phone’s stability and performance over an extended period of time. Samsung is planning to test out the Nougat update before making it available to everyone.

Samsung might start the global rollout later this month

Samsung periodically pushed out Android Nougat beta builds to users part of Galaxy Beta Program, which ended last month. Even so, the company is still working on the final build and making sure that no other bugs are reported, hence the need for a soak test. However, this might actually be the last build that Samsung pushes out before the public release.

It’s unknown at this point when the company will update the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to Nougat, but it shouldn't be long now. Samsung is expected to update other smartphones to the latest Android OS version as well, including the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and the Galaxy S7 Active, which was recently spotted on a benchmarking site running Android 7.0 Nougat.

The latest Nougat update brings some changes to Galaxy S phones, including the exclusion of Samsung Notes, which is no longer a pre-installed app and is available in the Play store. Moreover, users will be able to save battery on their phones by putting apps to sleep.
