New foldable Samsung phone coming in 2021

Many believe Microsoft’s very first Android device, the Surface Duo, is more or less dead on arrival, simply because it comes with a premium price without having the latest-generation hardware specs.

But on the other hand, it looks like others are just impressed with the dual-screen form factor that the Duo is based on, and Samsung appears to be among those who believe that Microsoft’s new mobile product is worth a try.

The South Korean company is reportedly building its very own model with a 360-degree hinge, in some ways similar to the Surface Duo. Possibly called the Galaxy Z Fold S, this model could launch in early 2021 and allow the display to fold both inward and outward.

However, it looks like Samsung wants to do things in its very own way, so the device won’t come with two different screens, but with one foldable panel. And yet, it’s still not clear what the role of the hinge is going to be, but using just one display would technically make it possible for Samsung to get rid of the gap in the middle and thus provide a more seamless connection.

Second-generation Duo

Other details are missing at the moment, but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft’s Surface Duo is much more than a product that marks the company’s return in the mobile hardware race.

The software giant has already suggested on several occasions that it’s working on the second-generation Duo, but on the other hand, the company clearly isn’t in a rush to make it happen.

Rumor has it that the Surface Duo would be expanded to international markets in early 2021, while the second-generation model could get the go-ahead for the United States later the same year or even in 2022. Nothing has been confirmed so far, but a new Duo is all but confirmed now.
