The iris scanner can be used with Samsung Pay

One of the main selling points of the Galaxy Note 7 is certainly the incorporated iris scanner, which is said to unlock the smartphone instantly and can also be used with a number of Samsung services and solutions.

During the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung emphasized that the Galaxy Note 7 pays a great deal of attention to data security. That is why the smartphone comes with a range of ways in which users and their data can stay protected. Samsung stated that it developed its own proprietary algorithm to map the irsi and translate it into a unique digital signature.

The Note 7 comes with a fingerprint scanner, as well as the option to use a pattern, password or a PIN in order to secure data. The iris scanner offers added and Samsung says that it's the safest and most convenient way to keep the phone and all of its contents locked.

Moreover, the phone comes with Knox, Samsung's security solution that's also found on other flagships released by the company. Note 7 users can also lock and unlock Samsung's Secure Folder on the Note 7, which can be used for storing sensitive applications, emails, pictures, contacts and even notes. Apps in the Secure Folder can be managed with different login accounts as well.

The iris scanner will work with Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass

The iris scanner can also be used for accessing bank accounts, as the process is made much easier and safer with the help of biometric authentication. Samsung announced that it partnered with a number of bank institutions in the US, to allow users to access their bank accounts with the iris scanner. With only a few steps to follow, users can register their iris signature on the phone and select the features that they would like to unlock with this digital signature.

The iris scanner works with Samsung Pay, as well as Samsung Pass, which would replace IDs and passports. However, Samsung does warn about some conditions in which the iris scanner might not work properly. Those conditions include contact lenses or glasses, narrow or “puffy” eyes, covering the scanner with a screen protector or shaking and tilting the device.

This isn't the first Samsung device to get an iris scanner, but the Note 7 sure is the most accessible in terms of international availability.
