Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition just last month, and the phone is already available for purchase. As an official sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the South Korean company has decided to lend a helping hand to competing Olympians.

Samsung, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has given away 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition smartphones to competing athletes.

Olympians from various countries have received the handset, including those from the Brazilian women's water polo team, a US Olympic gold medalist, and a team of synchronized divers from Great Britain. Fencers from South Korea have also gotten their own Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition. Samsung will also be a partner during the Olympic Games in PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020.

Samsung will also give away IconX earbuds to Olympians

Besides the 12,500 units of the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition, Samsung has also given away wireless IconX earbuds to each Olympian. The earbuds come with a heart-rate monitoring system, a music player, and support for Samsung's S Health app.

Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition boasts the same specs as the Galaxy S7 edge flagship, including a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 CPUs. The rear camera comes with 12MP and has a 144-micron pixel sensor and f/1.7 aperture, while a 5MP unit is placed on the front.

It has a 5.5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The device features USB Type-C port and a 3,600mAh battery. It also has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

However, Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition comes with a black metal frame and the Olympic Games logo engraved on the back. Samsung also pre-loaded the handset with customized Olympic Games wallpaper and themes, and the Olympic rings are featured on the phone's home screen, lock screen, notifications bar, contacts menu, and phone dialer.
